Only one life
Matters of faith started to interest me after a good friend of mine received faith. He gave me a booklet called "Only one life". It gave me a feeling that if I died now, I’d be in trouble.
I took part in a Bible circle and in the first meeting this old lady (there were mostly old ladies) told that there is someone here now who is under the power of the devil. Dismayed I though that she must mean me. That was over ten years ago.
After that first time I thought that a devil’s helper like me can’t go to a Bible circle anymore, but something just drew me there. If there was a specific subject in my mind concerning faith or I had thought about something, then for my surprise the very same thing was discussed in the Bible circle. It was so wonderful to be tended there and God drew me irresistibly. I can’t give an exact date for when I received my faith, but it just happened. Thanks be to God, who does not leave unfinished what He has started!
I became penitent and was relieved from my burden after a Gospel concert, when the members of the band asked, who would like to be prayed for. So there I confessed, with tears in my eyes, my evil deeds and together we prayed for the blood of Jesus to purify my soul. I didn’t feel any ecstasy or even a feeling of happiness, but peace came through time.
I have been no model believer, but Jesus has come to help the weak and putting my trust in that I get to live my life. Mercy is new every morning and that’s a wonderful promise to each and every one. The image that believers are tight-lipped and sour-faced is not true by far. I have laughed a thousand times and there is the good thing of knowing that someone is praying for me in times of trouble.
My own mother is maybe my most eager intercessor and now I pray for my own children and also for my husband. God answers my prayers when the time is right and in His own way, I get to trust that, even though He doesn’t answer my prayers right there and then.
Imagining my life without God and Jesus, it would be like I was adrift. Now I have someone to turn to in times of trouble and the same direction to turn to when it’s time to give thanks. Life itself is a gift given from God to us. And you never know how exciting the life that God has planned for us to live can be, if we just rise and follow Him.
